While modern road racing bikes have aerodynamic features incorporated into their frame design and component selection, an aero road bike is laser-focused on minimizing wind resistance to help make you faster. A road racing bike is often lighter than an aero road bike, making it better for climbing, while an aero road bike is designed to help you slice through the wind faster, especially in sprints or solo breakaways.

Dialing in your frame size is critical for comfort and overall performance. Height and inseam length are key metrics for figuring out the correct frame size, which correlates to the length of the seat tube. Most manufacturers offer a sizing chart to match your measurements, but there is no substitute for test riding a bike before buying it—especially as top tube length can vary from one manufacturer to another. Once you’ve determined your correct frame size, adjustments to saddle height, stem length and handlebar reach can help you fine-tune your fit.

A road racing bike is built for speed and efficiency, which demands a more aggressive (lower) riding position, while an endurance bike has a more relaxed (more upright) riding position. Racing bikes are focused primarily on performance, while endurance bikes prioritize comfort and are better suited to longer rides when the pace is less intense.
